2024 Chevy Silverado Sees New Colors and Update, ZR2 Redefines Durable W/ Diesel Addition

Here at Jim Butler Chevy of St Louis (and nationwide!), the rough and tumble Chevy Silverado has quite the fanbase. Last week, the Motor 1.com blog excitedly described the details of the new technology within the Silverado’s cabin, and also included details about the off-road ZR2 variant! The ZR2 will now be offered with the 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax turbo-diesel engine for the first time, cranking out 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque.
The ZR2’s standard engine was previously the 420 horsepower, 6.2 liter V8 that cranks out 460 lb-ft of torque. You can still count on a smaller-packaged punch coming from the 2.7-liter four-cylinder TurboMax engine, and Chevrolet did not list any new changes for the 5.3-liter V8. The 2024 Silverado is also now offered in Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Slate Gray Metallic, and its 6.2-liter V8 will feature active dual exhaust with Sport mode.
The Midnight Edition will now also be available on the High Country for 2024, which includes new black power-retractable assist steps and LED lighting. Customers who choose the High Country trim get the added convenience of adaptive cruise control. This system helps your vehicle maintain a safe following distance and will kick in to keep you within the set speed limit. The Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT Trail Boss, and ZR2 trims will also now offer the Blackout Appearance Package.
The WT trim now is better connected and aligned with what our drivers expect, adding wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The available Safety and WT Safety Packages now feature front and rear park assist. Chevy has also given the 6.2-liter a new active exhaust system with a Sport mode, which can be quieted down for calm cruising, or dialed up for a bit more salacious bite. It is no surprise that so many people now are looking to get off-road more frequently with awesome trucks such as the ZR2, as getting further away from urban confines allows the driver to fully enjoy every rut and ridgeline to the fullest.
The superior fuel economy of the diesel is bound to add to the truck’s range, making it an ideal rig for overlanding. This should pair nicely with the Silverado ZR2’s front and locking differentials to offer traction that can face off with any incline fantastically.
Still going incredibly strong from the 2021 model year, the Silverado’s facelift at that time saw the addition of a completely new interior and updated exterior styling cues. This was when the 13.4-inch touchscreen, Google Maps and Super Cruise also were included. We can attest that neither of these 2024 models will linger in the “Mall Crawler” category, and are the beefy and durable types of vehicles that can tremendously take on a demanding day’s work or play!
